Smart Catalog CS4 beta installation
After downloading the Smart Catalog beta, extract it and place all contents in the "WoodWing" folder inside the InDesign CS4 Plug-in folder. If this folder is not present make it your self.
Placing the Plug inside another folder or a folder with another name will cause errors.

If I understand you correctly, you are able to create rules and rule sets, but you are not able to right click on a rule or set to activate the context menu.
Are you able to select are rule after you have:
- closed and reopened the Formatting Rule panel, or
- saved, closed and reopened the document
downloaded the beta version for my CS4 but cannot activate it
clicking on NEXT in the activation panel doesnt seem to work out
what to do?

It is indeed not possible to activate a Smart Catalog CS4 beta version with your WoodWing serial number. However, it should be possible to request a 30-day trial license.
Of course in both cases it should always be possible to click the 'next' button after you have filled in the mandatory fields for the current panel.
Please try again and make sure you fill in all required fields before attempting to go to the next panel.
but still i need to activate the plugin, and there it stops
i choose 30 day's trial,
after filling in my details and choose next, he asks me about the http proxy, don't need that, then click next
dialog screen becomes blank, but nothing happens after that

Thanks for providing more information.
I see your version of the 'About Dialog' is different than the one that is available in the Smart Catalog CS4 pre release version. You have v6.0.0 build 10 installed while the version in the zip file is v6.0.0 build 14.
PLease close InDesign and unzip the Smart Catalog CS4 pre release zip file and copy the file 'woodwingui.swf' and the folder 'style' into your WoodWing plug-ins folder. Make sure to overwrite existing files.
Restart InDesign and activate your Smart Catalog CS4 pre release version.
it worked ok
still have some questions abouw working with but do that in the other department of your forum

I have installed Smart Catalog on my CS 4 but after have created a rules I can't select this rules on the Smart catalog panes. For your information I have installed SC 6.5 build 4.
