PM Medici and WoodWing enter Partnership

lorenzo-medici-and-erik-schut

PM Medici from Switzerland has entered a Technology Partnership with WoodWing. PM Medici has recently developed CPSTabFlow, an extension to the Enterprise content publishing platform to easily integrate Excel documents into InDesign documents, complete with access for remote contribtutors like financial experts.

CPSTabFlow can ease the process of creating annual reports and other documents that rely heavily on Excel content. More information can be found on the Web site of PM Medici.

The promised videos are online

Hello

As i promised we made now both videos. One gives you an overview to the CPSTabflow System and one shows how CPSTabflow works with Woodwing.
Bacause the production of annual reports can be a sensitive proess, so we will produce another video concerning CPSTabflow and security. There are some concepts in the solution, they are not discussed in the overview.

When you go to the link:
http://www.pm-medici.ch/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=58:...

you will find the links for the videos at the end of the site.
When we have more vdeos concerning CPSTabflow then they are in this location.
When somebody has some questions don't hesitate ask. We will try to answer.

English version of the text

Like i promised i wrote a english version of the text. So i hope to clear a little bit more. Samuli wrote some impressions he had from a really short demo. He told it's not a collaboration tool, but i think it is. I didn't show him everything. The time was short, But its a collaboration between designer and the "financial guys".
But to clarify this, we go to produce a short video and we post this on this forum. So it will be easier to overview the functionality of this solution.
Here the link to the english version:

I stand corrected, your

I stand corrected, your solution is a collaboration tool between the financial and layout people. My purpose was to emphasize that Excel-files are upload-only, and for a very good reason.

If that was the only point I was wrong about, you did a pretty good job on the demo :-)

Thanks for the translation, looking forward to the video.

This is good move for both WoodWing and PM Medici.

We have installed Medici's Opix image database connector for a client who wanted to search for images in InDesign CS2 as part of their WoodWing workflow. The connector worked flawlessly and the team at PM Medici were very helpful in getting the English translation ready on time.

If you search for the PM Medici website using Google http://www.pm-medici.ch/ you can translate the page into English without too many mistakes. I'd love to see a demo video if possible.

I saw a live demo and was

I saw a live demo and was impressed. Integration to Enterprise is still a work in progress, but the enhanced linking of Excel files to InDesign layouts seems to work flawlessly.

Basic points, as I saw them:
- There is a separate server application where the Excel files are uploaded and previewed
- Excel files are only uploaded/updated, never checked out or edited on the server
- A special InDesign plugin replaces the standard Excel importer, with "3 dimensional" (multi-sheet) and multi-range importing
- Cell contents are locked for standard InDesign/InCopy editing
- ID table/cell formatting is safe with updates
- Selective updates for tables (choose which cells to update)

Other cool stuff
- Updated table data can be previewed with the help of IDServer
- Versions of Excel tables can be compared visually side-by-side, changes clearly highlighted
- A single table with labels on different languages on cols A/B/C is linkable to multiple layouts with the same numbers (on cols D->)
- Automatic figure formatting based on language (e.g. 200,000/200.000)

Limitations
- Upload-only Excel files (I do understand why: table data comes from external accounting system)
- Excel files not part of Enterprise workflow (for the very same reason)
- A separate server, login, UI
- Needs a reader ID/IC-plugin for live-linked tables (or I would think so...)

Conclusion: It does what is promises, and I like it.
Great work Lorenzo!

Interested to here more

I looked at the site. Unfortunately its all in German and being a lazy englishman I cant read it. We have had interest from some corporate publishers. But in these cases Table production has been a big issue and they weren't happy to use InCopy in Citrix or as remote client.

Would be keen to hear more details on this to see if it solves the problem.
